When I like something in terms of fashion or appearance, I tend to stick to it obsessively for a time. I’ve never really had fashion idols but I do get inspired by movies, people, art, and life in general.
In 2008, when Styloholic made a apiece about me, I was obsessed with my riding boots and my riding pants. I remembered the shop girl asked how long I’ve been riding. “Well, I don’t. I just love the clothes”, I answered. I asked her what she thought of my look and her answer was ” Well, it looks like you’re going riding.” oh, ok. Thanks.
I walked all over New York with my equestrian knee-high boots ( which were horrible to break in because they were made for riding support and not strolling on cobble stones..). Nowadays, everyone and their grandmother has a pair of riding-inspired rain boots, but it still love my pleaded riding pants.
So maybe I should get to my current, and somewhat un-orthodox, inspiration du jour: A 12-yeard old fictional kick-ass girl named Mathilda. Yes, Nathalie Portman’s character from Leon. Luc Besson is my all-time favorite Director ( ALL TIME), I love Jean Reno, and Nathalie Portman used to be amazing.
So, I bought my bomber jacket at Uncle Sam’s on 8th street, I’m saving out my hair to cut it like hers, and I got my Dr. Martens. OK so maybe they’re a little to flower me happy, but hey.
Magali Guidasci was the costume designer. I looked her up and she’s done a bunch of movies, but nothing as good, in my opinion, as Leon.
I can’t get over how much I love what she did with Nathalie’s , and Jean’s, clothes for this film.
Sunday mornings are sacred. I wake up, make my soy latte, put on music, and read Selectism for a few hours like it’s my bible. It’s the best place to read up on your daily menswear, design, and culture.
Favorite piece of today was on italian designer CAMO’s fall 2012 collection. I’ve fallen in love with this structured wool jacket. It feels so 1930’s western. And as you know I have a soft spot for the vintage western look

Hubby is looking for a real lice nice bag. we’ve been having a hard time tracking down classic men bags in Stockholm. SirandMadame has a really nice collection that was shown at Project two weeks ago. I love that trade show, It’s the first year I’m not attending.

On the weekends I like to cook. Last night I made rice and beans and spare ribs. Yum.
Tonight we were supposed to have dinner guests and I had the menu all planned:
Appertizer: Spicy tomato/creme freche soup with garlic croutons.
Main Course: Moules Frites in white whine and home made french fries ( Duh, all is home made)
Dessert: Warm chocale chip cookies and vanilla ice cream. Ok so, the vanilla ice cream I was gonna buy.
Yesterday at six pm I decided to go out and get the ingredients when we remembered: Banana Split!! This is Sweden! There are NO liquor stores!! There is only one government-owned chain store and it closes at 3 pm on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays.
With my tail between my legs I had to call my friends and cancel, cause how can you have people over for dinner and serve 1. steamed mussels in white whine without the white wine. 2. have different wine for each coarse without wine.
Im gonna drag hubby to have dumplings at Grandma’s dumplings..again.

A Rodebjer coat at half off. In this picture you cant see the design on the back. I found it at Grandpas at Nytorget. What a lovely weekend. First dumpling from Grandma and then a coat from Grandpa. Don’t mind the apartment under construction (and under clutter).
I’m so happy like a clam!! That’s what I’ve been singing since we found an antique store that had original string book shelves. Going home to use our new power drill.

Stockholm is tasting better and better. Next time I’m trying the Chinese hot pots. So happy I found this amazing place!
My uncle bought a beautiful 17th century farm in the north of Sweden. It’s just lovely with a working fire place in each room. On the property there is 2-story guest house that was badly renovated in the 1970’s. Although I love prints and patterns, I’m not the biggest fan of a brown flower printed linoleum floor. But to make a short story long, My uncle says if I renovate the house, it will be mine!! My very own country house. And it’s close to my favorite ( only) uncle that I haven’t seen in 10 years since moving to New York. And it’s only 3 hours from Stockholm! And I can go on and on and on about my new weekend project!!
Now I can’t stop singing Country House by Blur!!
I love to come home and find drawings that my hubby has been working on during the day. I’ve always had a thing for artistic, (and nerdy) men. Don’t tell hubby about the last part.
